Head up to the 3rd floor of the OCD Building at 8 O Cho Dua, right by the O Cho Dua six-way junction: a ceiling of thick woven rope netting, wooden beams hung with filament bulbs, an LED-edged stage in the middle of the room and a rig of lights sweeping across the ceiling. Every evening of the week brings its own themed show with DJs, MCs and dance acts; long tables are set with sharing plates for groups of friends and company parties, and birthday parties get a light-up Happy Birthday sign and a cake brought right to the table. Red silk, a gold star, three floors up
The TOP.U logo is the word TOP in thin white strokes laid over red silk, with a gold star tucked inside the O and an umbrella standing in for the U — see it once and you remember it. On its fanpage the venue calls itself 'Upstairs at TopU, on fire', and its weekly schedule posters are built like a TV programme: flying ribbons of red silk, a gold star, tall block lettering in gold and a box for each show with a strip of dates underneath. The room on the 3rd floor of the OCD Building carries the same spirit — a ceiling of thick woven rope netting, wooden beams hung with filament bulbs, stone walls and patterned walls with a gold sheen, and an LED-edged stage set in the middle. Long tables stand end to end for groups of friends and company parties, DJs and MCs lead the whole room, and a green frog mascot makes the rounds to greet every table.
